Two people who died following a firearms incident in Nelson last Friday have been named by police.
Emergency services were called just before 12pm on September 4 to the reported theft of a shotgun from a store on Quarantine Rd in Annesbrook.
Police were soon after alerted to a firearms incident on Parkers Rd, where a man and a woman were both found dead when officers arrived a short time later.
They were named today as Nicola Yvonne Perry, 48, and Brendon James Perry, 49.
Inspector Steve Collins said police's examination of the property had since been completed, with the scene blessed at returned to its owners.
"The post-mortem examinations have also been completed," he said.
Collins said inquiries into the circumstances of the death remained ongoing, with information being gathered for the coroner.
"We also continue to provide support to the loved ones of those who died," he added.
"I would like to acknowledge the effect of this incident on the Nelson community, who have no doubt been shaken by this traumatic incident, and thank those who have rallied together to support those affected."
Family says it's an 'incredibly difficult time'
In a statement released through police, Nicole's family thanked the Nelson community for going "above and beyond to help during this incredibly difficult time".
Both families asked for privacy while they grieved.
At the time of the incident, police said the pair were known to each other and described the incident as isolated, with no ongoing risk to the public.
No one else was being sought in connection with the incident.
