Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis has been charged after a crash in downtown Auckland last month injured three people.

The crash on September 23 occurred at the intersection of Jellicoe St and Halsey St and left Curtis’ Tesla and a taxi badly damaged.

According to the NZ Herald, the taxi driver’s vehicle had to be cut open for emergency services to get to them.

Two people were taken to hospital, one in a serious condition and one moderate, while a third suffered minor injuries.

Police today confirmed charges had been laid.

“A 58-year-old man has been summonsed for reckless driving and driving with excess blood alcohol," a spokesperson said. “He will appear in Auckland District Court on 15 October.”

Last week, a statement was released on Curtis’ behalf, saying he had suffered internal injuries in the crash and was admitted to hospital.

The statement said he helped with first aid until emergency services arrived.

“I am deeply saddened by this incident," Curtis said. "My thoughts are with those who were hurt, and their families at this time.”

The statement added he was "collaborating fully with relevant authorities".

Curtis declined to comment further when approached through a PR agency today.

Curtis appeared in hit films such as Once Were Warriors, Training Day and Avatar.
