Christchurch researchers are calling for those who have had Covid-19 to come forward and help them identify how long antibodies provide immunity against the virus.

They also want to find out how many Kiwis have been exposed to the virus and follow the long-term effects it can have on their general health.

Kiwi Emma Prentice jumped at the opportunity to join the study, after a four-month journey to good health following a battle against Covid-19 while in the UK.

"I was a month in my flat, unable to leave my flat and looking back it was pretty scary. At the time I don't think I realised how serious it was."

She's donated blood to the University of Otago, Christchurch researchers as they look to answer an important question about immunity against Covid.

Researchers from the Christchurch Heart Institute are needing about 3000 people to take part in the three-year study and are especially wanting to hear from those who have had Covid-19.

“How can you know what it is doing to your body if you can’t see it and with Covid, it is so new,” researcher Chris Prembleton told 1 NEWS.

“If it’s having an effect on my heart I would like to know that so I can do something to combat that.”

In the study, they’re also wanting to test a representative group of people between 10 and 80 from different regions to see if they’ve been exposed.
