Man caught with car full of drugs on his way to Dunedin O-Week

A man, allegedly on his way to Dunedin to sell drugs at O-Week celebrations, was arrested after being pulled over for speeding.

The driver was caught over the 100km/h limit near Warrington, about half an hour north of Dunedin, on Feburary 5.

Police said the man was being issued a ticket when the officer noticed an "unmistakable" and "pungent" aroma coming from the vehicle.

The vehicle was searched, and the officer found seven grams of "strong-smelling" cannabis, enough to make about 15 cigarettes.

Also allegedly found in the vehicle was 200g of MDMA, tabs of LSD and about 150g of ketamine.

"Altogether, the illicit substances found added up to an estimated value of $70,000," police said.

The 22-year-old driver was allegedly on his way to Dunedin for O-Week celebrations, marking the start of the university semester, to sell the drugs.

He was now facing charges of possession to supply Class C (ketamine); possession to supply Class B (MDMA); possession of utensils (cannabis); possession of Class A (LSD) and possession of Class C (Cannabis).

He would be next appearing in the Dunedin District Court on March 10.
