Three arrested after alleged gun sighting in Petone

Three people have been arrested following a possible gun sighting in Petone this morning.

Police were called around 7.20am to the Lower Hutt suburb, with armed police responding "as a matter of precaution".

In a statement, police urged the public to stay away from the East St area as officers responded to the incident.

The area was cordoned off, and road closures were in place from East St to Waione St.

All cordons and diversions have since been removed.

Police said appropriate charges were being considered and it would continue to investigate into the matter.
