Auckland FC coach Steve Corica will miss his side's final home game of the regular season after seeing red during the Black Knights' clash with Melbourne Victory over the weekend.

Corica was given his marching orders in the 87th minute of the game at Go Media Mt Smart for dissent, just as his side began to crawl back against the visitors.

He had been protesting to the officials over a call he believed should have been a free kick.

Following the game, the match review panel found he had used "offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures".

As a result, Corica was banned for one game.

It means he won't be on the sideline for Auckland's penultimate game of the regular season against the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday afternoon.

He will be replaced on the sideline by assistant coach Danny Hay.

Following Saturday's game, Hay told media that the red card had been "building up for some time".

He took aim at the match officials for missing what he described as "blatant fouls".

"I think that the frustration just boiled over.

"We felt like we were in ascendancy, and when you don't get those calls, you're highly disappointed."

Auckland sit second on the A-League table, three points behind the Newcastle Jets. Sunday's game will be crucial for closing the gap as the club looks for a second Premier's Plate and an easier road to the grand final.
