Wellington councillor Rebecca Matthews is replacing Ray Chung as the chairperson of a Wellington City Council subcommittee.

The council said on Monday that Chung resigned as the head of the Council Controlled Organisations Review and Appointments Subcommittee. He also stepped down from the subcommittee completely.
Chung, a Wharangi/Onslow-Western General Ward councillor, said he wanted to focus his attention on his constituents.
A spokesperson from mayor Andrew Little’s office declined to comment further on Chung’s resignation.
Little, who appointed Matthews on Tuesday, was confident that she would chair the subcommittee effectively. She would still keep her deputy chairperson positions at the audit and risk committee and the revenue and financial value review working group.
The subcommittee is responsible for reviewing the performance of council controlled organisations, such as the groups running the Basin Reserve, Zealandia wildlife sanctuary, Hnry Stadium and economic development agency WellingtonNZ.
“The subcommittee does important work ensuring council council-controlled organisations deliver for residents and users,” Matthews said. “I’m committed to the subcommittee working effectively together, so oversight is strengthened through the perspectives of every committee member.”
