A person was killed following a crash involving a car and truck near Matamata overnight.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of State Highway 29 and State Highway 24 in Te Poi at around 2.10am.
"The driver of the car, the sole occupant, died at the scene," police said.
"No other injuries were reported."
A scene examination was carried out, and the road had since reopened.
"Enquiries into the crash are ongoing."
Earlier, a motorcyclist was taken to Auckland Hospital in critical condition after a separate crash in Wairau Valley.
Emergency services were called to the Wairau and Target Road intersection at 7.42pm.
Police said members of the public helped the rider following the crash.
Police believe the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved.
A scene examination and investigation into the crash is ongoing.
