Bridgestone New Zealand has issued a recall of Duravis R660 ECO tyres following reports of rapid air loss while being driven.
The affected product includes the Duravis R660 Eco with a tyre size of 215/60R17C, load index of 109/107, and a speed rating of T.
The tyres, with a production range of 1524 to 4925 (Week 15 of 2024 to Week 49 of 2025), were sold at Ford New Zealand and Bridgestone stores from December 12, 2024 to February 17, 2026.
"Bridgestone is recalling the affected 16-inch tyres and will also begin a staged replacement programme for the affected 17-inch tyres, starting with customers considered most at risk," Product Safety said on its website.
The recall was issued as the impacted tyres are more susceptible to developing cuts when driven in rough or wet conditions.
In a "small number" of cases, water could enter through the cuts and cause the steel parts inside to rust. In turn, the tyre could develop a bulge, uneven tread surface or additional visible cuts. Over time, the damaged area might grow and the tread could begin to come away from the rest of the tyre.
"Bridgestone has identified a small number of cases where this damage, the tread coming away from the rest of the tyre, has caused the tyre to lose air quickly while the vehicle was being driven," Product Safety said.
"A sudden loss of air can make a vehicle harder to control and increase the risk of an accident."
Bridgestone NZ said there were no injuries or crashes reported in New Zealand or overseas. Reported cases were limited to damage to tyres, vehicle or property.
"Bridgestone is aware of cases of sudden air loss involving these tyres in New Zealand."
All rapid air loss cases have occurred no earlier than 11 months post tyre production date.
Bridgestone will contact affected customers directly and is working with Ford to confirm customer contact details.
