A person has been critically injured after a vehicle crashed into a Matamata property near a major roundabout overnight.
The crash near the roundabout connecting Mangawhero Road, Tower Road, Burwood Road and Broadway was reported to emergency services at around 1.30am.
St John said a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance responded.
"Our ambulance staff treated one patient and transported them to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition," a St John spokesperson said.
Police urged motorists to follow detours.
"Motorists, especially those with heavy vehicles, are to take the State Highway 29 turnoff onto State Highway 27 as emergency services work at the scene," a police spokesperson said.
The serious crash unit was notified.
Fire and Emergency NZ responded with one crew from Matamata station.
